Travelers from the UK to Vietnam increasing by 16%, beaten only by France

Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator has pinned high hope on expanding its British clientele following its successful show at the recent World Travel Market London 2014.

Hanoi, Vietnam, November 29, 2014 - Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator has pinned high hope on expanding its British clientele following its successful show at the recent World Travel Market London 2014.

During the first nine months of this year 2014, European arrivals increased sharply over the same period in 2013; visitors from the UK have increased by 16%, Germany by 75%, Spain by 24%, and Italy by 15%.

The country’s tourist board revealed at WTM that a total of 158,000 Brits have visited the country in the first nine months of the year, a year-on-year increase of 16%.

The figures mean the UK is the second most important European source market for the destination, beaten only by France’s 165,000 visitors over the same period.

It was also revealed that Europe is Vietnam’s third largest source market with a total 14% market share of international visitors.

Pham Ha, CEO and founder of Luxury Travel held high level meetings with representatives of a large number of companies and the leaders of the luxury tourism industry. Vietnam’s first luxury tour operator has pinned high hope on expanding its British clientele following its successful show at the recent World Travel Market London 2014.

Pham Ha reveals that more specialist golf tour operators want to develop golf and wellness spas tours in their brochure in 2015, an experiential travel trend he believes will continue in the future. Britain’s tourists, according to Ha, picked Vietnam for their vacations for safety, affordable prices, authenticity, warm weather, and convenient direct flights.

Britons traveling to Vietnam are looking for a more authentic experience and seek to have a deeper understanding of the country’s culture, food, history and everyday life. While Thailand is geared more toward mass market tourism, Vietnam is a destination that is attractive to a more selective class of travelers.

Luxury Travel’s booking record indicates that British travelers prefer cultural experiences and beach extensions, while many also combine Vietnam and Cambodia or Myanmar into one trip.

He confirmed that his representative office in London and sales and marketing team will expand its stand and come back to WTM 2015.

Deputy director general Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Quoc Hung said as the destination seeks to grow these numbers, so more would be done to engage the UK press and travel industry. Vietnam is planning to hold a series of fam and press trips to further drive growth in UK tourist numbers.

With significant numbers of visitors from Australia, America, France, England and Germany, Vietnam expects to receive over 8 million tourists in 2014.

Jeanne Herrick has more than 40 years of experience in public education working for the San Jose Unified School District and Alisal Union School District. She is a leader in K-12 district reform and has championed the “Reading First” effort through grant development and implementation. Ms. Herrick is recognized as a statewide expert in the areas of English Language Learner academic language and literacy development. How the Read to Me Project works:
The Project is implemented in 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classrooms in primarily low-literacy school districts. Students are taught about early brain development, the importance of reading to young children and “The 9 Best Ways to Read to Young Children.”

Participating classrooms are provided with age appropriate books carefully chosen for content, developmental level and ease of reading by students with limited reading skills. Each week students check out a book which they read to their infant, toddler or preschool age brothers and sisters as part of their nightly homework.

Project coordinators work closely with teachers and students throughout the year, providing on-going coaching, training, support and motivation. Students are recognized for their commitment and participation with an end of the year award and bag of books so they can continue to read to their siblings during the summer.

The Read to Me Project has been carefully developed and designed to provide continuous sibling to sibling engagement. Young siblings may be read to over a span of up to three years as participating student readers’ move through grades 4, 5, and 6. This continuity provides young children with extended exposure to early literature and increases the likelihood of successful outcomes. The student readers gain confidence in their own reading skills, become young mentors and model good family literacy practices. Family bonds are strengthened and schools and communities are positively affected.

Americana-Folk Singer/Songwriter Joseph Eid has announced the recent release of his first full studio album, Human.

Los Angeles, CA, November 25, 2014 - Americana-Folk Singer/Songwriter Joseph Eid has announced the recent release of his first full studio album, Human. Recommended if you like the Avett Brothers and Ray Lamontagne, Eid has been garnering considerable buzz with his music, recently being named as one of the 100 Hottest Live Unsigned Artists of 2014 by Music Connection Magazine.



The album’s title track "Human", displays the pastoral beauty, delicate guitar work, and intricate but relatable lyrics that have become Eid’s trademark. “Human” seamlessly blends sharp, melodic pop lyricism with traditional folk sensibilities evoking folk troubadours both past and present .

The album’s first single “Ready Now”, is propelled by a driving rhythm section , lush instrumentation and an instantly unforgettable hook. “Ready Now,” has surpassed over 20,000 views on YouTube and is the depiction of an animated version of Eid. The song tells a love story in which the man is confused about his beloved one. The storyline is lively presented by Eid’s gentle and narrative voice in the verse parts, and the passionate vocal harmony in the chorus increased the whole song’s intensity and meaning. The use of varied orchestra instruments also added a layer of dramatic effects to the song, giving it a more complicated and intriguing sensation.

Originally born in Liberia to Lebanese parents, Joseph Eid grew up in the suburbs of New York.  He was raised in a strict and traditional home where the arts were only supported as a hobby and never as a career.  During his college years, Eid studied psychology and pre-med but all the while, he was always dreaming about a potential career in music.  After his first semester at med school, the dream got too big to hold and Joseph made the bold choice of dropping out and moving to New York City to pursue music and follow his dream.  He joined a band, picked up a guitar, and the songs poured out like rain.  His journey led him to Los Angeles in 2007 where he started playing regularly at open mikes and showcases.  Shortly after, he began working with world-renowned guitarist/songwriter David Lamar, honing his songwriting at weekly showcases at the Stone Bar, leading the prolific singer/songwriter to write over 30 new songs as well as record his debut EP Cardiac Output.

Known as a dynamic solo performer, Joseph Eid has brought his cathartic one-man live show to many of Los Angeles’ premier music venues, including stints at Room 5 and El Cid.  He has held residencies at the following Hollywood venues:  The Stone Bar, Crane’s Hollywood Tavern, Room 5, and Bar Lubitsch.

Eid recently released a music video of “Something Real,” which is based on a personal experience that also happens to be universal with communication via technology and social media. A visually simple yet emotionally complex music video, “Something Real,” is meant as a commentary on our constant need to be plugged in and how this has changed the way we communicate as well as taken away the value and the weight of words and human connection.  This idea is demonstrated in the video as Eid sings to and tries to connect with lifeless, robotic people. The twist at the end of the video illustrates that no one is immune to the digital disease – including Eid.

Vendange Carmel Inn & Suites Partner With Monterey County Wineries

To Offer Unique Wine-Themed Experience In The Heart Of Carmel

Carmel, CA, November 24, 2014 - When Brian and Jonathan Lee sought inspiration around the transformation of their family’s Carmel inn a few years ago, they looked no further than Monterey County’s Wine Region.

In 2013 Wine Enthusiast magazine bestowed the county as the top wine destination in the world. In the article, writer Steve Heimoff hailed the region’s “beautiful scenery, upscale galleries, glamorous resorts and stellar local wines.”

Faced with a major renovation and re-imagination of the property the Lees once owned but sold seven years ago, the answer became obvious: Name the inn Vendange (French for “vintage”), capitalize on its supreme location, design everything around a wine theme and create two stunning, fully equipped barrel rooms” for traveling families or couples.

“After we sold the property it really declined, and passing by it was difficult for our family,” said Jonathan Lee. “We wanted to modernize it and make it beautiful again, but also we knew we wanted to make each suite on our property a reflection of Monterey County’s flourishing wine industry.”

The Lees had the idea to partner with local wineries, especially those with tasting rooms in Carmel (currently there are more than two dozen tasting rooms, wine bars and bottle shops in the village, and the Carmel Wine Walk is thriving).

The wine-centric idea was to have wineries “adopt” a room at Vendange, putting their personal stamp on the furniture and décor. Each suite now provides a romantic ambiance of luxuriousness and charm.

“It took some time to get our ideas across to local wineries (Twisted Roots came on board first), but once they completed their suite, and the wineries could visually see the ideas we were striving for, the rest took off from there.”

Following the lead of Twisted Roots were: Galante, J. Lohr, McIntyre, Dawn’s Dream, Joullian, Ventana, Manzoni, Tudor, Cima Collina, Holman Ranch and Blair.

The novel idea allows the wineries to reflect their own style and statement through the rooms, while Vendange allows the wineries to use the rooms for clients or wine club members to create valuable cross-promotion.

“For us it creates a cachet and makes it a unique experience,” Lee said.

The family also created the two adjoining “barrel rooms,” designed ideally for couples rooms to create a relaxed “hang-out” experience. Each room is more than 900 square feet, with separate bedrooms, radiant floor heating, private patios, personal entrances and parking spaces. One room comes equipped with a high-end kitchen, complete with granite countertops, Viking appliances and all the comforts of home.

Whether it’s a walk around the manicured gardens, or quiet conversation and complimentary wine and cheese tasting around the fire pit under a lighted pergola, guests at Vendange find themselves pampered in an intimate environment with expert, attentive service.

Nestled beneath the pine trees in a tranquil neighborhood, Vendange Carmel Inn & Suites is one of the few inns in Carmel to provide parking. Located just a short walk from Carmel’s legendary downtown, visitors can absorb a complete wine experience in and out of their suites.

Lee points out that “vendange tardive” means "late harvest" in French. The phrase refers to a style of dessert wine where the grapes are allowed to hang on the vine until they start to dehydrate, concentrating the sugars.

“It fits because we want guests to come here, rest and get sweeter for the next day,” he said.

His Temptations hits, many featuring Dennis Edwards who had replaced David Ruffin, burned with intensity. “Runaway Child” “Cloud Nine,” “I Can’t Get Next to You,” “Papa Was a Rolling Stone”, and “Psychedelic Shack” still smolder.

Other stellar singers...Richard Street, Ali-Ollie Woodson...joined, adding their luster to the groups’ growing fame. No matter the change in personnel, The Temptations remained true to The Temptations tradition. They survived the whims of fashion, whether disco or techno, and stuck to their guns.“Great singing,” says Otis, “will always prevail.”

In the eighties, The Temps prevailed with smashes like the Otis Williams’ penned “Treat Her Like A Lady.”Then in the nineties, another Temptation explosion: It began with their appearance on Motown 25 in 1983; it continued with the NBC mini-series that chronicled the group’s history, a ratings triumph over two nights in prime time. An Emmy Award followed. Then came a series of acclaimed records:

For Lovers Only, a collection of love standards, termed an instant classic by critics, remains among the most cherished of all Temptations recordings.

Phoenix Rising, went through the roof, a platinum-plus mega-hit featuring “Stay,” the Narada Michael Walden produced song that topped the charts.

Ear Resistible nailed a Grammy and a legion of new fans.

Awesome, released in 2001 is The Temptations at their freshest, strongest, and most appealing.

Reflections was released in 2005, nominated for a Grammy and brought to the world The Temptations versions of some of Motown’s greatest songs.

Terry Weeks, who grew up in Alabama and spent eight years in the Air Force before his makeshift audition for Otis on a Hollywood street corner, whose smooth textures and tones, express an extraordinary full range of feelings.

Newest member, Bruce Williamson started singing in a church choir at the ripe age of 5 years old and hasn’t stop since. He has sung in everything from commercials to musical to the top showrooms in Las Vegas. Bruce was introduced to Otis by Ron Tyson.

“Our challenge,” says Williams, “is to live in the present while respecting the past. Our past is filled with riches only a fool would discard. At the same time, we thrive on competition. As a Motowner, I grew up in the most competitive musical atmosphere imaginable. But we also understand that for a group with history, no matter how glorious that history might be, reinvention is the name of the game.”

“When I tell people we are God’s group,” says Otis, a remarkable modest man, “I don’t mean it arrogantly. It’s just that we have been tested time and again and keep coming back. We have suffered the death of so many legendary singers...Paul Williams, David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks, Melvin Franklin. Others like Dennis Edwards, Richard Street, Ali-Ollie Woodson and Theo Peoples have left, and yet our unity is tighter, our sound brighter and our popularity greater. 5th Annual Carmel Jewish Film Festival March 7-22 presents Honored Movies, Speakers, Panel Discussions Nancy Spielberg to Participate in March 14th Q&A

The fifth annual Carmel Jewish Film Festival (CJFF), featuring eight award-winning movies from six countries, as well as speakers and panel discussions, will be held March 7-22.

Carmel, CA, November 23, 2014 - The fifth annual Carmel Jewish Film Festival (CJFF), featuring eight award-winning movies from six countries, as well as speakers and panel discussions, will be held March 7-22. Programs will be presented at Congregation Beth Israel, on Carmel Valley Road near the mouth of Carmel Valley, the Golden Bough Playhouse in Carmel and the Monterey Institute of International Studies.

“Our mission is to celebrate the artistry of film and to educate viewers with film offerings conceived and created through a uniquely Jewish lens,” says Susan Greenbaum, event co-chair. “We hope that our festival will help bridge cultural and religious differences and contribute to solidarity and peace within our greater community.”

Films are from Macedonia, United States, France, Israel, Germany and Canada.

Among the highlight of the festival:
On Opening night, Saturday, March 7 at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, the Macedonian film, The Third Half will be shown at 7:30 p.m. A true story of love, football, and the Second World War, the daughter of a wealthy Jewish banker and a poor soccer player elope and ultimately elude the bitter destiny of her people. At the conclusion of the movie there will be a panel discussion featuring MIIS and CSUMB faculty members on the topic, “Identity: What Makes Us Who We Are?

A rare appearance by world-renown Israeli psychiatrist Ilan Kutz will follow the showing of Dolphin Boy on Sunday, March 8 at 5:00 p.m. at the Golden Bough Playhouse in Carmel. Dr. Kutz, who appears in the film, treated the patient over a four-year period using dolphin therapy.

The showing of U.S. film Above and Beyond will precede a Q & A with film producer Nancy Spielberg, sister of Steven Spielberg. The film and discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 14 at the Monterey Institute of International Studies Irvine Auditorium. The film portrays World War II veterans from the U.S. who volunteered to defend the new country of Israel, turning the tide of the War of Independence.

On Closing night, March 22, 7:30 pm at Congregation Beth Israel in Carmel, SFSU professor and Jewish historian, Marc Dollinger, will speak after the showing of American Jerusalem: Jews and the Making of San Francisco. This epic story portrays the role of the pioneering Jews who settled in San Francisco beginning with the Gold Rush.

Singer-Songwriter Duo Sabrina & Craig set to Release Moving Christmas Love Song Tree of Love with New Video November 11

Los Angeles, CA, November 23, 2014 - A special Christmas love song, “Tree of Love”, from the singer-songwriter duo Sabrina & Craig is set for this season's holiday release November 11th. This duo has been garnering national attention and loving fans with their heartfelt, soulful, and engaging music and stage presence. Their song “Mine All Mine” has been played on NPR radio and they have made regular appearances at many folk festivals.

“Tree of Love” is not just one more Holiday song; it’s a beautiful love anthem. The lyrics, instead of depicting the festive atmosphere as most Christmas songs do, tell the true story of the marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert and how their tradition with the Christmas tree became an enduring symbol of their everlasting love. With Sabrina’s tender, yet passionate vocal performance and Craig’s intricate finger-style guitar work, every detail of this lover’s tale is so vividly presented that we can feel Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s joy, pain, and their faith in love. The addition of sweeping orchestral instruments expands the dimension of the song, and adds warmth and sparkle, enveloping listeners like a warm blanket on a cold winter’s night. They are currently recording their second full-length album, GREEN, which was funded by fans – the GREEN Team -- through a crowd funding campaign and is expected to release in March of 2015.
